Lost And Confused

When did we as a people lose compassion and empathy for our fellow man? When did it turn too we are all in it for one: me, myself, and I? You know I went into nursing because I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life, not for money or glam. I just wanted to be someone’s shoulder. You know there is a saying do unto others as you would do unto you Or love that brother. When did we go to: ‘don’t trust anyone, don’t befriend a patient, don’t do anything except give them their meds?’ I’m not so sure that I can do that. Be a robot, I mean.

When you work in long term care you see these patients every day, day in and day out. Almost more than your own family members. How can you not care and just put blinders on and be a robot? How can someone just continue to walk by someone in desperate need of help and look the other way? I see it daily, I see families not caring if their family members even have clothes to wear.

Some of these patients I’m the only person that they really see on a daily basis. [Besides other workers] I guess if I “wanted to advance in my career I’m gonna have to put some blinders on’. (Which will be impossible for me.) Or at least that’s what I’m told.

I have another question? Why do women try to tear down other women when we are supposed to be working toward the same goal? Why all the back stabbing? Shouldn’t we at least be civil to one another.? Don’t we have enough trials in this life, without causing more for one another? Why can’t we just be kind to one another? I just don’t get it, do you? I’m so lost and confused..
